Best Ways To Diagnose a Dying PC!
So you're PC is slowing down eh?
Well you're not alone. I run a business, OneDesk Computing, where I fix and build Computers for clients. Probably 1 out of every 5 people always come in complaining that their Laptop or Desktop has been acting slow or not even booting up at all. There are many ways I go about solving such issues. DISCLAIMER: Not all Computers are the same, could have different symptoms etc.
If your computer is running slow, I usually run a series of programs: CCleaner, Malwarebytes, EmsiSoft Emergency Toolkit (just for peace of mind) and IObit's Advanced Systemcare program for Windows. On top of that, I always remove the clutter from the computer; remove unnecessary programs that roam the depths of the computer's hard drives and those ugly add-ons many people install. For Mac, I run CCleaner, Malwarebytes and AppCleaner (for removing the useless applications). However, sometimes you might run into a problem where your PC might not even startup again. You can run into problems where the bootloader is missing, eg: "ntdlr is missing" etc or constant blue screens. Problems like bootloader issues are always solved with my trusty Hirens Boot USB. Hirens Boot is a bootable OS that's extracted onto any old USB, which comes preloaded with many lifesaving apps like Bootloader fixes, Resetting Windows Passwords, Recovering Hard Drive files and more. For restoring bootloaders and such, I run the corresponding program for the problem and voila! The PC is back to normal! There are problems where people encounter constant bluescreens, and yes they are scary the first few times. Don't be scared, these types of problems can be fixed easily, sometimes... Bluescreens can be started by a number of problems: CPU overheating, Memory errors, Driver conflicts etc. Since bluescreens correspond to many different problems, I won't be covering them today. But if I do see people wanting a tutorial for a specific bluescreen error, I would love to help!
