Yesterday, Google began shipping out their Founders Edition Packages of Google Stadia to those who have preordered. Reviews after Reviews came pouring in, and in total, it's bad. It's real bad... For those who don't know what Google Stadia is, Stadia is an online streaming service for video games, making the necessity of purchasing a gaming laptop or desktop unnecessary. However, Google wasn't the first to this market, Nvidia launched their platform, Geforce Now, about 2-3 years ago. At the time, Geforce Now was amazing, minimal input lag, had a ton of titles to choose from and it was free. It would stream at 1080p 60fps which was more than enough. Google Stadia announced two packages for Stadia, Stadia Pro ( $9.99 per month) and Basic (free). Pro can handle upto 4K and HDR streaming while Basic handles upto 720p 60fps. All seems good right now, but that changes real fast. The Washington Post made a video regarding the input lag, and it's terrible. I'll link the
video to see for yourself. The input lag is so bad that it takes SECONDS for the mouse to stop moving. This is bad, especially since Geforce Now, a free service, never had any such problems. Next, as seen on Gamers Nexus's
video, Steve points out that Google made the setup for Stadia extremely convoluted. Setting up the account and such isn't allowed on GSuite accounts for some unknown reason etc.
If Google really wants to take over this market, they can. Google basically controls the entire Internet, and if they want to control the Game streaming market, they have they power. But they need to deliver first, and based on the initial release of Stadia, it's not looking too hot for them.
